Transportation Committee Meeting Notes August 18, 2009(meetings held every third Tuesday from 6:00-7:00 pm. – Sprague Branch Library) Rawlins Young is working through the Salt Lake City Mayor’s Office to organize a tour of Mayor representatives and City Planning representatives along the proposed Salt Lake Jordan Canal Trail. The general goal is to organize support for establishment of a pedestrian and bicycle trail along this route. Members agreed there is a need to develop a larger transportation committee. Larry Migliaccio reported SHCC (Sugar House Community Council) was not successful in winning a walkable communities grant applied for in late June. There were approximately 68 applicants and 10 grants. Larry Migliaccio volunteered to write a transportation committee mission statement for review and to provide information to Amy Barry for the new Sugar House Community Council Website. This information would include useful transportation links and notes of today’s meeting. We briefly discussed Soren Simonsen’s comments during our last transportation committee meeting. We were informed studies are underway for the Sugar House trolley and are being done by BRW. No final determination has been made on the termination point in the Sugar House commercial area and the one track or two track configuration remains an issue. The committee discussed the potential relocation of Deseret Industries and the potentially positive impacts this could have such as expansion of the Sugar House Fire Station into the DI property and closure of Simpson just west of Highland Drive. The committee passed on questions to the SHCC chair related to trolley operations. She is going with the Mayor’s team to review Portland’s trolley operations. |
