Sugar House Community Council Plant Sale Report

September 2009

A plant sale was held at 862 Harrison Avenue on September 19, 2009. The following individuals need to be acknowledged for their contribution of plants to the plant sale:

  • Amy Barry
  • Jim Kirkman, the gardener who works for Craig Mecham
  • Lindsay Oswald
  • Linda Oswald
  • Sally Barraclough
  • Lynne Olson
  • Judi Short
  • Gigi Brandt
  • Beverly Sudbury
  • Cindy Cromer 
  • Paul Mulder (son of Dave Mulder) provided many pots, as did Cindy Cromer from the East Central Community Council. 

Others who helped in various ways include:

  • Benny Keele
  • Maggie Shaw
  • Neal Olson
  • Wade Jones

 

The best news of all is that the sale generated $370 for the Sugar House Community Council, minus expenses of $24.13 for a net profit of $345.87, and there are no plants left.  There are a few remaining day lilies and they have been potted for potential sale next spring.

We could learn much from Portland. Portland has greatly reduced their use of individual automobiles. This has been accomplished by providing good alternatives. The delegation from SLC was comprised of the mayor, developers, financial people , local business owners , councilmen , officials from South Salt Lake, Westminster College ,UTA , and yours truly. This was a wonderful opportunity for the Sugar House Community Council to learn about transportation alternatives and urban planning. It was also a great opportunity to set the foundation to be heard and included in the decision making process.
