Sugar House LUZ Report March 2009

The Land Use Committee met on March 17. Committee members present: Judi Short, Benny Keele, Grace Sperry, Amy Barry, and Ruth Price.

DSL Utility Boxes

We reviewed the two proposals for DSL utility boxes: 2705 South Chadwick Street and 2024 South 1900 East. The committee is recommending approval with the condition that the applicant provide more screening. These will be on the April 1 agenda, please drive by and look at the parcels before the meeting.

March 25, 2009 Planning Commission Actions

Planning Commission Actions

  • The Foothill Stake expansion is on the agenda for March 25. Details of the decision will be presented April 1.
  • The Red Moose Roasting Company is opening where the Scandia Coffee House used to be on the southeast corner of 17th south and 9th east. They are asking for a conditional use for a drive up window. This is in the Emerson neighborhood so did not come to SHCC. Judi has been working with the Emerson representatives from the East Central Community Council and has comments from the neighbors. No one seems to think this is a good idea, it is on the Planning Commission agenda for March 25. Much of the construction was done before any permits were issued, and the drive up window is already built, even though it is not yet approved.

Items Before The City Council

City Council

  • Language of Flowers They were given a briefing for Language of Flowers 2421 Parleys Way from single family residential to Community Business. A public hearing will be held April 7.
  • WalMart – the City Council has requested that WalMart decide which option they wish to pursue (rezone the parcel, or re-use the existing building) by summer.

Upcoming April Meeting Agenda

The next meeting of the Land Use Committee will be April 21 at 6 p.m. at Sprague Library. The only issue on the agenda so far is the parcel at 2016 South 2100 East. This is a request from the owner to rezone from its current residential use to commercial. Not sure of the details at this point.

SHCC Land Use and Zoning Meetings for the coming year (these dates are tentative, subject to something interesting to talk about!) All meetings are at the Sprague Library from 6-7 p.m.
