Sugar House LUZ report November 2009

We met on November 17.

Derek Payne reported on the meeting with the neighbors on Lake Street regarding the proposed demolition at 2028 Lake Street and possible rezone to commercial. Most of the neighbors are not too keen on the idea. Westfield Properties will present the proposal to the entire Sugar House Community Council on December 2, and the neighbors have been invited.

RDA Goals for Sugar House We would like an update from the RDA on the progress of some of those goals. We specifically talked about the realignment of Sugarmont and Wilmington. We didn’t want to recommend goals that were already complete or close to being achieved

Demolition Ordinance - we briefly discussed it and felt the ordinance wasn’t easy to discern the real meaning of it. Since the meeting, we have learned that after feedback, the city is doing a rewrite of the ordinance, so we will review the next version in the future.

DSL Utility BoxesJudi Short asked if people would be interested in adopting a box near them to keep tabs on it and create a task force of sorts to take pictures and provide regular documentation of their maintenance. She will try to get a list of locations of boxes in the city.

Update on the Deseret Industries Proposal The Deseret Industries reports that they are working on drawings and plans, and hope to have all approvals soon. They will begin construction as soon as they can, with an anticipated opening date of summer, 2011.The city has agreed to start back up on the

Westminster Small Area Plan, so that it can be done in conjunction with the Master Plan Update being done by Westminster. As soon as there is a definite begin date, the council will be notified.

The next meeting of the Sugar House Land Use and Zoning Committee will be on December 15 at 6:00 p.m. in the Sprague Library. There is one agenda item identified at this time. The committee will hold a second meeting on Sunday, December 6 at 1 p.m. on Wilmington Avenue in front of the RDA property, to discuss what issues they would like to see considered when the RDA reviews the proposals they have received for the parcel.

The Planning and Zoning website has the zoning code, (http://www.sterlingcodifiers.com/codebook/index.php?book_id=672) but the tables are confusing because they are much wider than the computer screen. These are more readable.------------For Planning Information, go to www.slcgov.com/ced/planning There is a link to Planning Commission and Board of Adjustment agendas. This is where you can sign up to get automatic emails from the city for these agendas. The monthly Planning Division newsletter is on this site. The recent Sugar House Business District Traffic Study is here.
