~ Sugar House Community Council Meeting Minutes – August 5, 2009 ~ Trustees Present – Jason Bradley, Elaine Brown, Jim Brown, Russ Callister, Philip Carlson, Sarah Carlson, Greg Carter, Pat Denslow-Kirly, Dolores Donohoo, Barbara Green, Michael G. Approval of Minutes – Dolores Donohoo made a correction to previous minutes balance should be reported as $3,705.96. Cabot Nelson’s motion to approve minutes to reflect Dolores correction passed unanimously. Treasurer’s Report – Dolores Donohoo reports a balance of $3,705.96. Public Comments – Michael G. Kavanagh spoke about newspaper errors, he is not a member of the Sugar House Merchants Association as state in the Sugar House Journal. Shelia O’Driscoll spoke for neighbors about the traffic on 1300 East at ShopKo is very dangerous. There was a discussion about 1300 East & I-80 traffic problems and questions about the Walmart/remodel. There was a brutal assault in the neighborhood of 1300 E & 2100 S near Sugar House Village. 900 East construction is progressing. Questions regarding the 700 East freeway exit be marked as a Sugar House exit by UDOT. Judi Short motioned that “Maggie will write a letter to UPDOT from the SHCC Board of Trustees requesting that when they finalize signage for I-80 that they indicate that 7th East is a Sugar House exit. 13th East is already signed as a Sugar House exit." The amended motion to request that they put information on signs before 13th and 7th indicating the Sugar House exist is coming up passed by voice vote. Detective Mark Cryder – Crime Report – Handout showing trends in crime and statistics are very close year over year June to June/July to July. Email specific issues to Det. Cryder at the beginning of month then he can report things and give us specifics at the next monthly meeting. Fairmont Park transients – bike squads have increased and it seems to be helping problem. Discussion about transients in Hidden Hollow and drug dealing in Walgreen’s parking lot. Any questions call Detective Cryder 799- 3669. Sugar House Merchants’ Report – Barbara Green – Arts Festival had 90 booths and they reported a great year. Westminster Sugar House Summit is funneling students into Sugar House businesses. Labor Day sale for merchants. Mayor Becker will be holding a September Speaker Event at Fiddlers Elbow, September 2nd at 8:30am. Business Spotlight – Michael G. Kavanagh introduced Zealand Stroud of Stroud Jewelers (900 E 2100 S). Zealand gave information about his family owned business.
Salt Lake City Council Report – JT Martin – Discussed graffiti issues and the nature of the declining infrastructure in SLC. Sewer pipes are getting lined with a type of plastic/resin that costs $24 a foot. Comments given to adopt a wall to monitor and take care of any graffiti. Street car is coming. Tiger Grant is submitted for the street car.
